The fetus, wrapped in plastic, was found around 1:30 p.m. by residents but was only retrieved by funeral home personnel around 11 p.m. due to the lack of a permit, which usually comes from a relative. The process was delayed because the family had not yet been identified.
Residents said the plastic bag had been there since morning, but they ignored it at first, as they were used to some trash being left behind after the garbage truck made its rounds.
However, when a car passed by and ran over the pile of garbage, a strong foul smell came out and the fetus was discovered inside the plastic bag. It allegedly still had its umbilical cord attached.
They immediately reported the incident to the barangay which quickly responded. The barangay officials said they will arrange a proper burial for the fetus.
Authorities are now investigating who left the fetus in the area.
