Police Col. Dennis Esguerra, PRO-NIR deputy director for administration, Negros Occidental second district Rep. Alfredo Marañon III, Sagay City Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr., and Police Lt. Col. Alvimar Flores, Sagay police chief, led the groundbreaking at the new Sagay Public Market in Barangay Poblacion II on Monday, June 9.
Flores said that the new and standard type police station is situated on a 1,500-square-meter lot donated by the city government and will be funded by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
He added that the donation was officially formalized on Sept. 30, 2019, through a deed of donation signed by then Mayor Rep. Marañon and former Negros Occidental police director Police Col. Romeo Baleros.
The new police station is a two-story building with facilities such as office spaces, quarters, detention cells, and conference rooms.
Javelosa said that the project represents a significant step forward for the people of Sagay. “We are confident that this project will bring furtherance to community services, developing the values of the PNP organization and the community involved,” he added.
Marañon cited stakeholders for their efforts in realizing this milestone for the city police force. With the new police station, he said response time will be quicker and they will be more visible to the public.
The P24.9-million building is expected to be finished by June 9, 2026.
In a message from Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, read by Esguerra, he thanked all the people who facilitated the requirements and necessary documents to construct the building.
“May this groundbreaking ceremony serve as an inspiration to us all to strengthen our efforts in our law enforcement campaigns against illegal drugs, illegal gambling, loose firearms, and other operations,” he said.
As of March, only 10 police stations in the province have no standard type buildings, including Sagay.
Flores said that with the new building, they would be able to upgrade their services while keeping up with modernization.
He said the project represents the continuing transformation of the PNP in its commitment to establish permanent, purpose-built facilities that embody professionalism, service, and integrity.
