Alas Pilipinas regained its winning ways as it dismantled New Zealand, 25-17, 25-21, 25-18, to keep its podium bid alive in the 2025 AVC Women's Volleyball Nations Cup at the Dong Anh Gymnasium in Hanoi, Vietnam Wednesday, June 11.
Eager to bounce back from a narrow loss to Iran, the Nationals took charge from start to finish and denied the Kiwis their first win in the week-long competition.
A victory over the unbeaten Kazakhstan (4-0) this Thursday, June 12, at the same venue, will give Filipina hitters (3-1) a better chance for a medal finish.
And a setback from the Iranians (3-1) to the Mongolians (0-3) would make things better for the Philippines, which aims to repeat its historic run in the annual regional tiff.
With Angel Canino watching from the sidelines, Vanie Gandler, Eya Laure, and returnee Alyssa Solomon led the way for the Nationals offensively.
Gandler and Laure registered 12 points each, while Solomon, who missed their game against the Iranians, chipped in 11 points.
Dell Palomata (6), Fifi Sharma (5), and Clas Loresco (5) also banked in decent contributions on the scoring column.
Aside from Canino, Shai Nitura and Bella Belen also went scoreless for the Jia De Guzman-led crew.
Charlton Vail spearheaded the Kiwis with 11 points, while Petra Manderson backed her up with nine in a losing effort.
