TACLOBAN CITY – A woman died on the spot when a passenger van crashed into a light post on the San Jose National Highway near the Tacloban DZR Airport in Barangay 88 here on Tuesday afternoon, June 10.

The Utility Vehicle Express from Ormoc City bound to this city was driven by Alex and had around 11 or 12 passengers, including a toddler.
Police said the vehicle was allegedly traveling at a high speed from Coca-Cola Junction towards the airport when the driver lost control and accidentally hit a solar light pole on the center island at around 12:45 p.m.
Five passengers were taken to the RTR Hospital and the other five to the ACE Medical Hospital here.
Police are conducting further investigation to identify all passengers.
Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-8 Regional Director Gualberto Gualberto said he will issue a preventive suspension against the operator of the UV Express vehicle.
Councilor Raymund Romualdez visited the area and said he is closely working with the police, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, Traffic Operation Management Enforcement Control Office, and other concerned agencies to put up barriers, signages, and speed bumps in the area to avoid such accidents.
He advised people in a Facebook post to always be careful and observe the speed limit when driving.
