Transforming perceptions: Creating opportunities for renewal

Reintegrating into society can be exceptionally challenging for a child who has made a mistake.

This initiative stems from an idea that began to take shape during last year's online webinar, “ME for a Better Mental Health.” Our current effort aims to break the stigma faced by the juveniles at Bahay Pag-asa in Las Piñas City. This concern was highlighted through Dra. Voileta Perit-Jequinto's firsthand experience during the final phase of her service before retirement.
Some immediate concerns for the children include skin problems, a lack of hygiene supplies, and inadequate vitamin intake. However, there are deeper psychological issues at play. These children require guidance, support, and understanding—a realization brought to light during Engr. Mark Louie Arcos' visit to Ms. Nora P. Guevarra, the Head of Bahay Pag-asa. Reintegrating into society can be exceptionally challenging for a child who has made a mistake. Carrying the weight of a past mistake can lead to feelings of being wounded, scarred, and forever marked—resulting in anxiety, depression, and, in the worst cases, suicidal thoughts.
To pave the way for second chances, Ms. Nora has initiated a project to help the children of Bahay Pag-asa. This program aims to teach valuable skills that will boost their confidence—not through a typical classroom setup, but rather through seminars and apprenticeships with industry professionals. Additionally, the project will introduce them to holistic practices of their choice from a variety of available sports disciplines.
