Eala faces Fil-Aussie rival in Lexus Ilkley Open

Alex Eala returns to court on Tuesday night, June 10, when she clashes with Fil-Australian Lizette Cabrera in the opening round of the Lexus Ilkley Open in Great Britain.

Match is at 10:40 p.m. (Philippine time) with the top-seeded Eala and Cabrera battling each other for the first time in this Women’s Tennis Association (WTA125) tournament.

The two previously teamed up in the International Tennis Federation’s W25 Corroios-Seixal in Portugal in 2022.

Eala seeks a better finish this time after a first-round exit at the Birmingham Open last week, while Cabrera also crashed out in the opening round of the same tournament after going through two qualifying matches.

The 20-year-old Eala has also skidded from No. 73 to 77.

The 27-year-old Cabrera, born in Australia to Filipino parents, is currently ranked no. 206 and has been competing in ITF tournaments where she last won in March at the W35 Swan Hill in Australia.
