Gov. Aris Aumentado on Monday, June 9, led the distribution of cash assistance amounting to P4.3 million as part of the provincial government’s indemnification program led by the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPV).
A total of 357 hog raisers from eight towns in the province were the beneficiaries of the program.
Aumentado said the program seeks to help beneficiaries rebuild their livelihood.
The governor commended individuals who helped the province fight the spread of ASF.
“What we want to happen is to prevent ASF from affecting the province. Let’s help prevent the spread of ASF. This is a very serious issue,” Aumentado said.
Aumentado commended the OPV, local government units (LGUs), and other stakeholders for supporting measures against ASF.
“Even if the virus was able to enter our province, I am proud that because of our determination and the hardworking people of OPV and our LGUs, we were able to control the spread of ASF. It did not cause significant damage,” Aumentado said.
Aumentado reiterated the province’s appeal for continued public support in the fight against the virus.
The governor added that ensuring the welfare of the province’s hog raisers is his priority.
"I hope you can feel our seriousness in fighting ASF. We have to pray that vaccine will be available soon. I hope that you will understand that what we are doing is for the welfare of the hog-raising community in our province,” said Aumentado.
Out of the 48 towns in the province, only 15 were affected by ASF. Data showed that out of the 1,109 barangays, only 41 have active ASF cases.
One-hundred nineteen barangays that have been closely monitored by OPV have not recorded a single ASF case in the past 30 days.
