Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro disclosed that Marcos decided to keep Año, who also agreed to stay at the National Security Council (NSC).
Castro said Año, who has been dealing with health issues, may continue to hold on to his position until he can, according to the President.
"Ayon po sa ating Pangulo (According to our President) and I quote: Secretary Año has been having to deal with health issues ever since the time of the pandemic. However, he has kindly agreed to stay on in the NSC as he feels," Castro said in a Palace briefing on Tuesday, June 10.
"And the President agrees that he can continue to do the fine job he has been doing.
Maaaring manatili si Secretary Año hangga’t kakayanin po ng kanyang kalusugan (Secretary Año can stay until his health permits)," Castro added.
Following the results of the mid-term polls, Marcos initiated a Cabinet review in May in a bid to recalibrate his administration. He asked all his Cabinet secretaries to submit their courtesy resignations, citing the need for the government to be "sharper, faster, and fully focused on the people’s most pressing needs.”
