An American citizen fell victim to minor thieves in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig but expressed gratitude when his cell phone was recovered by the police.
The incident happened at about 11:50 a.m. on June 5 while the US national surnamed Thomas, 47, a businessman, was walking to go to a mall along 25th Street in BGC in Barangay Fort Bonifacio when he was surrounded by six minors who asked him for money.
As he was about to give them money, he noticed that his smart phone valued at P15,000 was taken from his back pocket.
The minors immediately fled. Thomas sought the help of patrolling officers and personnel of the BGC Sub-Station 1 of the Taguig police responded within minutes.
During a follow-up operation, the police traced one of the suspects, a 15-year-old boy from Maharlika Village, Taguig. The stolen phone was also recovered.
The minor was brought to Sub-Station 1 for documentation and was referred to the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) and the Taguig City Social Welfare and Development Office in accordance with Republic Act 9344 (Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act).
The minor will receive psychosocial intervention under the care of the CSWDO.
Thomas thanked the police for their immediate response.
