In a statement released on Monday, June 9, CEAP emphasized that continuing with the impeachment proceedings is not only a constitutional mandate but also a moral and democratic responsibility.
“This is the constitutional imperative, as affirmed by legal and constitutional experts,” CEAP said. “This is the moral imperative—to search for the truth, to defend the impeached, and to uphold the rule of law,” it added.
CEAP also stressed that proceeding with Duterte’s impeachment trial is the “democratic imperative—to protect our principles of due process, checks and balances, transparency, and public accountability.”
Your vow, your commitment
CEAP appealed to Senators to rise above personal and political interests, reminding them of their oath to serve the Filipino people with integrity, courage, and accountability.
“To our Senators, this is a call for personal transcendence: transcend your personal and political interests and fight for truth and justice. This was your vow when we elected you,” the group said.
“This was your commitment to the Filipino people. This was the promise you made to your God, who blessed you with the power to lead and serve,” CEAP added.
Upholding truth and justice
Quoting Ephesians 6:14 — “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place” — CEAP called for spiritual discernment and moral courage among lawmakers.
The association emphasized that proceeding with the trial is crucial to maintaining transparency, due process, public accountability, and the system of checks and balances in a democratic society.
A call to action
CEAP concluded its statement by urging Senators to act with courage and integrity as they fulfill their constitutional duty.
“We pray that you honor your vow, commitment, and blessing—with spiritual discernment, courage, and action,” the statement read.
The impeachment complaint against Vice President Duterte has drawn widespread national attention, with various civil society organizations, faith-based groups, and legal experts weighing in on the matter.
As public pressure mounts, the Senate’s next steps will be closely watched—not just as a legal process, but as a defining moment for Philippine democracy.
