This is after the city government, in partnership with Rockwell Land Corp., broke ground for the construction of a P20-million three-story police station building on Buri Road on Monday, June 9.
Mayor Albee Benitez and Rockwell Land Corp. chairman and chief executive officer Nestor Padilla officially sealed their partnership through the signing of deed donation during the groundbreaking rites.
Rockwell initially donated a 1,986-square meter lot to the city government, but was expanded to 2,130-square meters where a fire substation and a Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) command center will also be built.
Benitez said clustering these essential services in one location will help streamline government operations and emergency response.
“This will be the first of its kind in the city, all three key emergency facilities situated together,” Benitez said, noting the accessibility of the site to the public.
Benitez emphasized the significance of clustering emergency services to create a one-stop hub for public safety and efficient disaster response. “This project is a step toward our vision of transforming Bacolod into a super city,” he said.
Benitez announced that Rockwell has committed an additional P10 million for the police station’s construction, matching the P10 million previously allocated through Sen. Francis Tolentino, bringing the total to P20 million.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will oversee the construction, which is expected to be completed in eight months.
The building will follow the city’s standardized government infrastructure design and align with Rockwell’s ongoing development in the area, Benitez said.
Future funding will be pursued for the fire and DRRM facilities, with the total estimated cost for all three projected at around P60 million, pending DPWH’s final assessment, the mayor said.
“I'm confident that Bacolod will become a truly remarkable city—not just because we have a well-crafted master plan, but because we are blessed with generous, productive, and efficient partners who will help us realize our vision of becoming a super city.”
Police Col. Joeresty Coronica, Bacolod police director, thanked Rockwell and the city government for the new police station and described the new location as more strategic and vibrant.
The new police station will cover Barangays Mandalagan and Bata while Barangay Banago will soon have its own dedicated station, through the efforts of Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya.
Gasataya, who will succeed Benitez as mayor, revealed plans to establish new police stations in Barangays Estefania, Banago, and Sum-ag.
He emphasized the importance of securing land donations or utilizing national government-owned properties before seeking funding through the Philippine National Police (PNP) or the General Appropriations Act.
Padilla, who grew up in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, said the project will make the city proud.
“Bacolod deserves better. We truly feel this is such a beautiful place and this project is something all of us can be proud of,” he said.
