Two men were arrested by the police for robbing and assaulting a Chinese family while walking along Rufino Underpass in Makati City on June 7, the Southern Police District (SPD) reported.
Based on the police report, the victim, identified as "Zian," was walking with his family when the suspects suddenly approached them. Zian was punched by one of the robbers while his cohort snatched the victim's bag containing his valuables before escaping.
The victim's father, identified as "Yiping," chased the robbers which caught the attention of roving police officers in the area.
The operatives intercepted one of the suspects identified as "Christian," who took the victim's bag.
The police recovered Zian's bag which contained P10,850 cash, multiple bills of foreign currencies, Zian's Chinese passport, Chinese bank cards, and other personal belongings from Christian.
Christian and JR declined to comment regarding the robbery.
The suspects were detained at the Makati City Police Station while charges are being prepared against them before the Makati Prosecutor’s Office.
SPD director Brig. Gen. Joseph Arguelles commended the arresting policemen for their prompt response and coordination which led to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the stolen items.
