2 killed, teenage driver seriously injured in Zamboanga City road crash

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two persons were killed while a teenage driver was critically injured in a horrific road crash on the San Ramon Highway here on Sunday afternoon, June 8.

The car driver, 17-year-old Franz Amir Maani Sahibula, suffered critical injuries in the crash where his vehicle burst into flames.
Live-in partners Daniel Maralpes and Robelyn Catalbas were killed on the spot when their motorcycle collided with the sedan.
Closed-circuit television camera footage showed that the motorcycle driven by Maralpes with Catalbas as back rider was crossing the highway from one side to the opposite side when it collided with the speeding sedan.
In a split second, the motorcycle disappeared, leaving only the helmets of the two victims on the highway.
Due to the impact, the car crashed into the perimeter fence of the San Ramon Penal Farm and burst into a fireball.
Sahibula managed to get out of the vehicle before it was engulfed by flames. He was taken to the Zamboanga City Medical Center in critical condition.
The grisly aftermath showed the helmets, a heavily damaged motorcycle, the burned sedan, a severed arm, and the bodies of the fatalities strewn on the highway.
Further investigation is ongoing.
