The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, June 8, raised a heavy rainfall warning for Metro Manila and several other provinces due to the ongoing effects of a Low-Pressure Area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon (habagat).

In a weather advisory issued at 5 a.m., PAGASA warned that heavy rains ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters may affect Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Laguna, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate throughout Sunday.
On Monday, June 9, heavy rainfall may persist in Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Antique, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, and Albay.
On Tuesday, June 10, heavy rains may prevail over Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, Antique, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Albay.
PAGASA warned that localized flooding is possible, particularly in urbanized, low-lying, and river-adjacent areas.
Landslides may also occur in highly susceptible zones.
Residents in areas affected by the two weather systems are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
PAGASA weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said the LPA was located 285 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon, or 115 kilometers north of Virac, Catanduanes, as of 3 a.m. on Sunday.
He noted that the combined effects of the LPA and habagat will affect large parts of the country in the coming days.
