The victims were residents of Barangay Minautok, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.
Police Major Sherwin Fernandez, Murcia police chief, said the seven passengers and driver were on their way to a school in Barangay Alegria, Murcia when the front right wheel of the vehicle came off.
This caused the vehicle to swerve towards the canal.
Fernandez said the victims sustained minor injuries and were discharged from a private hospital here.
He said that it was raining that morning, but it had nothing to do with the accident, as it was caused by mechanical trouble.
Fernandez noted the vehicle’s condition since it was already old.
