VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur – Police reported on Sunday that 34 packs of suspected shabu were recovered by fishermen in the West Philippine Sea in the municipality of Santa Cruz, this province, 84 kilometers south of this capital city.

The value of the contraband – each pack weighing a kilo each –was estimated at P231 million.
Three packs were melted and 22 remain intact. These were valued at P149 million and labeled
“Freeso-dried Durien” with a photo of the durian fruit.
Twelve packs in a black plastic bag worth P81 million were also recovered.
Their plastic packaging had the label “Refined Chinese Tea” and the Chinese word “Daguanyin.”
Ilocos Sur police chief Police Col. Darnell T Dulnuan, barangay officials, and the Philippine Coast Guard witnessed the inventory, markings, and documentation of the illegal drugs by the Provincial Forensic Unit.
Dulnuan ordered chiefs of police of coastal municipalities in Ilocos Sur to coordinate with the Maritime Group and the PCG and intensify surveillance. He lauded the vigilance and cooperation of local fishermen. (with a report from Freddie Lazaro)
