The incident was initially reported as a transformer explosion at around 7:30 p.m.
However, the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) later said that a piece of plastic trash had fallen from a nearby building onto the high-tension wire of the post, igniting the fire.
Authorities immediately cut the power supply in the area, leading to a temporary outage.
At around 11 p.m., Meralco personnel repaired the affected post, and power was restored in the area by 2 a.m. on Saturday, June 7.
