BACOLOD CITY – The provincial government of Negros Occidental has released cash incentives totaling P1.3 million to athletes who won medals in the recent Palarong Pambansa 2025 in Ilocos Norte.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, with Dr. Ramir Uytico, Department of Education-Negros Island Region (DepEd-NIR) chief, and Anthony Liobet, officer-in-charge assistant regional director, awarded them at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall here on Thursday, June 5.

The province won 18 golds, 20 silvers, and 21 bronze medals.
Each gold medalist received P10,000, totaling P490,000; silver medalists were awarded with P7,000 each, for a total of P518,000, and P4,500 for each bronze medalist (P336,000).
Record breakers received additional incentives, including Mico Villaran of Romanito Maravilla National High School here, who won gold in the 400-meter and 110-meter hurdles, a silver and bronze in the 4×400-meter relay, and set two new records.
Coaches and trainers of the medalists were also granted cash incentives.
Lacson thanked the athletes for their contributions to Western Visayas before departing from representing the region in the Palaro.
He said that the province is the biggest contributor of gold medals in the Palaro for Western Visayas.
“What a fitting way to depart from the region because next year you will be representing Negros Island Region (NIR),” he added.
He urged athletes to start preparing for the Palaro next year representing NIR.
The Palarong Pambansa was held from May 24 to 31.
Western Visayas, composed of athletes from Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Guimaras, was third.
