A total of 4,557 students in Valenzuela City spent their summer break productively by participating in the city’s reading and mathematics camps, the local government announced on Thursday, June 5.

The city’s Public Information Office (PIO) said the summer learning camps were designed to provide students with an engaging and educational experience during vacation, while also preparing them for the upcoming school year.
This year’s remedial classes officially began on Wednesday, June 4, at Canumay West Elementary School and Marulas Elementary School.
The program specifically targets incoming Grades 4, 5, and 6 students who have been identified as “frustrated readers,” “non-readers,” or "low/non-proficient" in math based on recent assessments.
Of the total participants, 1,548 students are enrolled in the Reading Camp—comprising 1,537 frustrated readers and 11 non-readers—while 3,009 are attending the Math Camp, including 2,934 low-proficient and 75 non-proficient learners.
Each student will take part in 10 half-day sessions focused on strengthening their reading comprehension and mathematical skills.
To better support the learners, the city government also held a Valenzuela Teaching Camp for educators on May 19 and 29. While, a total of 84 English teachers with 168 aides, and 152 Math teachers with 304 aides, underwent training through the Synergeia Foundation to effectively mentor students during the program.
The 2025 Summer Camp will run from June 2 to 13.
Students who complete all sessions will receive a P300 gift certificate from the city government.
This initiative underscores Valenzuela City's commitment to quality and accessible education, aiming to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
The event was attended by Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie "Wes" Gatchalian, Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja, along with the city officials, Synergia foundation members, students and teachers from Marulas Elementary School and Canumay West Elementary School.
