Laguesma: Push for labor reforms, job facilitation to continue

The administration remains firm in advancing key labor reforms—particularly accelerating employment facilitation and reviewing minimum wage rates—after retaining Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma in the Cabinet.
Laguesma emphasized that sustaining school-to-work transition programs and livelihood initiatives remains a cornerstone of the government’s inclusive labor agenda.
He also credited the President’s hands-on leadership for inspiring government officials to stay committed, especially in addressing the needs of vulnerable sectors.
“This is not just about staying; it’s about fulfilling our commitment to ensure no one is left behind in our labor and employment programs,” Laguesma said, adding that DOLE personnel are urged to deliver services where they are most needed.
On wage concerns, public consultations and hearings on the minimum wage review in the National Capital Region (NCR) are ongoing, with formal deliberations expected by mid-July.
This follows the mandate for the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPB) to review wage orders at least 60 days before their anniversary.
To support these efforts, DOLE will hold a nationwide job fair on Jun. 12, in celebration of Independence Day, aiming to connect jobseekers with stable, better-paying employment opportunities.
The event will offer a “one-stop shop” for documentary requirements—such as NBI and PSA certificates, plus BIR, SSS, and PhilHealth services—on-site to simplify the hiring process.
In partnership with the Department of Health (DOH), free medical examinations will also be provided to help fast-track employment.
Laguesma encouraged applicants to attend with confidence and professionalism, highlighting that these initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to expanding access to decent jobs and improving labor conditions nationwide.
