Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito said he finds it better if the two strong contenders for the Senate leadership would enter into a term-sharing agreement.
Ejercito said both Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero and former Senate president and returning senator Vicente Sotto III are qualified to lead the Upper Chamber.
Both lawmakers are also stalwarts of the Nationalist Peoples Coalition (NPC), and are eyeing the top Senate seat in the 20th Congress.
“It’s up to them. It will be better if there’s no quarrel,” Ejercito said during a Kapihan sa Senado forum.
“It will be better if we worked together, especially if we’re in one party. Ideally, it will be better if we don’t scatter,” Ejercito pointed out.
Besides, the country is already facing so much problem, and the Senate needs a leader that will lead it effectively during this turbulent and challenging times.
Ejercito also said talks of leadership changes in the Senate whenever a new Congress comes up is normal.
“It’s normal in a new Congress, unfortunately both of them are my partymates,” he said.
Earlier, members of the so-called Duterte bloc have confirmed that Sotto and Escudero have reached out to them for support.
Sen. Imee Marcos had also said she has received offers to run for the Senate presidency.
