DAVAO CITY – Former President Rodrigo Duterte sent a poignant message to his children, urging them to stay strong in the face of adversity and live their lives with purpose and faith.
The message was relayed by his youngest daughter, Veronica “Kitty” Duterte, who also posted it on her Instagram account on Tuesday evening, June 3.
“Ate and kuyas, papa has a message for us…,” Veronica said, referring to Vice President Sara Z. Duterte, Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte, and first district Rep. Paolo Z. Duterte.
The Duterte patriarch encouraged his children not to indulge themselves in tears and loneliness, because at the end of history, this is just a waste of time and emotions.
“Be a human being and be strong. Life is a fight; fight well. Fight for the glory of God and that alone. You only travel this world once, make the most out of it,” former President Duterte said.
He also had a touching message for his long-time partner, Honeylet Avanceña: “To Honeylet: Make the most of it. I love you. I love you with all my heart.”
The former Chief Executive offered words of deep affection to his youngest daughter: “Veronica is a gift of love.”
Former President Duterte, known for his firm leadership and tough demeanor, showed a more emotional side in his message, particularly when speaking about his youngest son, Sebastian.
He said he felt emotional upon seeing Vice Mayor Duterte at The Hague in the Netherlands, emphasizing his pride in him.
Vice Mayor Duterte arrived at The Hague on Saturday, May 31, during Vice President Duterte’s 47th birth anniversary and immediately joined hundreds of Filipinos gathered to express support for his father.
Former President Duterte said Sebastian is his youngest son and that he is proud of him.
The elder Duterte’s message came following Veronica’s constant communication with him. She recently sent pictures and videos, updating her father about her activities and events here.
According to the message received by Veronica, the former Chief Executive became emotional upon watching a video of her youngest daughter singing a song. He said she looked beautiful.
Former President Duterte was proud of her youngest daughter’s creative writing. He described her as bright and said that she writes incredibly well.
The message said: “He (FPRRD) always knew how talented you are. You make him truly happy. He appreciates the letters, calls, photos, and videos you send. He loves you with all his heart.”
The context of the message offered a rare glimpse into the elder Duterte’s inner thoughts and his strong bond with his family.
The note, filled with love, faith, and a sense of resolve, reflects the former President’s enduring commitment to his loved ones and living a life of strength and meaning.
