Son's tip leads to father's arrest for computer shop theft in Rizal
A man was arrested after his own son surrendered him to the police for stealing a computer motherboard from a shop in Barangay Maly, San Mateo, Rizal on June 1.
CCTV footage taken from inside the computer shop on May 31 showed the man taking the computer part and placing it inside his blue backpack before escaping.
Witnesses said the suspect was first seen using one of the shop's computers. Upon seeing most of the customers leave the shop, he then stole the item.
The shop owner's mother said the motherboard taken by the suspect costs P11,000. She added that the man had a history of theft, previously stealing other items from the shop amounting to P40,000. Another CCTV footage from a nearby computer shop saw the suspect selling the stolen items.
The victim and his mom reported the incident to barangay officials, who eventually found the suspect. However, he was able to escape from authorities while talking to the victims.
This prompted them to upload the footage of the suspect's crime on social media. His son, upon seeing the video, reported his father's whereabouts to the police, leading to his arrest at his residence in Montalban, Rizal.
The suspect refused to comment on his crime. He is currently detained at the San Mateo Municipal Police Station.
Police said he will be charged with theft.
