A Manila lawmaker dismissed Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero's claim that House members were acting on the whims of House Speaker Martin Romualdez when it comes to the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Reelected Valeriano says his vote for the impeachment reflected constituents' voice
"Never," Manila 2nd district Rep. Rolando Valeriano told reporters in an interview Wednesday, June 4 after Escudero chided congressmen for supposedly blindly following the orders of Romualdez.
Valeriano clarified that his vote to impeach Vice President Duterte was the vote of his constituents.
"Yung boto ko sa impeachment, yun po yung boto po ng distrito dos ng Maynila (My vote in the impeachment complaint was the vote of the second district of Manila)," he said.
"Siguro kung mali yung pirma ko doon, baka natalo ako noong nakaraang eleksyon (If it was wrong for me to sign it, I might have lost in the elections)," he added.
Valeriano said it is the mandate of the Senate to proceed with the impeachment proceedings. He expressed hope that the senator-judges would start the trial.
The congressman won a fresh mandate during the May 12 mid-term polls.
