“We’re finalizing the guidelines pero yung gist, basta bawal ang trading among sister teams. Bawal ding mag-trade ng rookies,” said Malonzo during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum.
“So kung rookie, yung rights hindi pwede i-trade. At kung may contract pa, has to be one season muna bago sya mai-trade,” he added.
The same thing will also be applied to the non-rookies: the trade must be between just two teams, meaning no three-way transfers are allowed, and if a player proceeded to her destination club, she must wait for one season before she can be traded again.
According to Malonzo, there would be no direct player deals as well for sister teams, and each player is eligible to be traded once a year in the window – which will occur one or two times and will last for more than a week.
So far, the league has 12 teams with six squads as sister teams: Creamline and Choco Mucho, PLDT and Cignal, and Akari and Nxled.
This weekend, PVL opens its second inauguration of Rookie Draft where 60 elite players hope to land a spot in the country’s biggest pro volleyball competition.
There, three-time UAAP MVP Bella Belen leads the aspirants alongside seasoned playmaker Alohi Robins-Hardy and top-notch hitters from UAAP, NCAA, and some provinces and even from abroad.
PVL returns in action in July with PVL on Tour before taking a respite to give way for the country’s hosting of FIVB Men’s World Championship set in September.
