Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco vowed to fast-track efforts that promote inclusive growth and uplift local communities through tourism following her reappointment by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during the administration’s midterm Cabinet review.
The announcement was made by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin during a June 3 press briefing in Malacañang, reaffirming Frasco’s role in advancing the government’s tourism agenda.
Frasco expressed gratitude for the renewed confidence, pledging to push forward programs aimed at revitalizing the tourism sector and generating livelihood opportunities for Filipinos.
“I am deeply honored and profoundly grateful to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the trust and confidence he has once again placed in me,” Frasco said.
“It is a privilege to work under his visionary leadership and contribute to the administration’s goals of revitalizing the tourism industry, creating jobs, and promoting the Philippines as a top-of-mind destination,” she added.
Her reappointment earned praise from tourism stakeholders, who cited her inclusive and transformative leadership.
The Philippine Hotel Owners Association (PHOA) commended Frasco’s support for legacy initiatives and the implementation of the Philippine Hotel Industry Strategic Action Plan (PHISAP) 2023–2028, a five-year roadmap for sustainable growth in the hospitality sector.
PHOA President Arthur M. Lopez noted that the plan’s six strategic pillars—target, time, tourist route, trust, technology, and talent—are key to addressing the projected demand for over 456,000 hotel rooms nationwide.
He also highlighted the DOT’s efforts in updating the National Accommodation Standards to ensure global competitiveness.
Within the department, the DOT Employees Association (DOTEA) expressed “full and unwavering support” for Frasco, citing her initiatives to enhance employee welfare and promote innovation, including free shuttle services, insurance for job-order personnel, and the revival of the DOT Sportsfest.
Major industry groups—including the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA), National Association of Independent Travel Agencies (NAITAS), Tourism Industry Board Foundation Inc. (TIBFI), Global Tourism Business Association (GTBA), and Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP)—also backed Frasco’s vision for a tourism industry that “leaves no destination behind.”
“With President Marcos’s continued confidence and the industry’s collective support,” Frasco said, “the Department will remain steadfast in revitalizing Philippine tourism, championing our national identity, and ensuring no community is left behind.”
