Scattered rains to affect parts of Luzon, Mindanao due to 'habagat', ITCZ

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, June 3 urged the public to remain vigilant against possible flash floods and landslides caused by the southwest monsoon and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

Over the next 24 hours, the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” may bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, and Pampanga.

Cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms may also be experienced in Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, Sarangani, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental due to the ITCZ, a weather system where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge, leading to the formation of rain-bearing clouds.

Meanwhile, the habagat may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or localized thunderstorms.
