Ten sacks containing P1.5 billion worth of shabu found floating in the Masinloc seas in Zambales were turned over by Bataan fishermen to authorities, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said on Monday night, June 2.
In a statement, the PDEA said approximately 222.655 kilograms of shabu was discovered by 10 fishermen at around 5:30 p.m. last May 29.
Upon their return, the fishermen immediately turned over the illegal drugs to authorities at around 4:05 p.m. on June 2.
PDEA noted that the shabu was concealed in ten sacks “holding 223 assorted vacuum-sealed transparent plastic packs.’’
The PDEA Regional Office 3 chief commended the fishermen for their responsible actions and has ordered a full investigation into the origin of the drugs.
Currently, the Bataan and Zambales agents are collaborating with other law enforcement agencies and local government units to uncover the source of the contraband.
"The PDEA will continuously monitor all suspicious activities and remain steadfast in its commitment to eradicating drug smuggling in Central Luzon," PDEA assured.
The suspected drugs were successfully submitted to PDEA with the active participation and collaboration of operatives of PDEA Bataan Seaport Interdiction Unit, PDEA Bataan Provincial Office, Philippine Coast Guard, and Mariveles Police Station.
The recovered drugs will undergo forensic examination and confirmation at the PDEA RO 3 laboratory.
