The LGU started implementing the speed limit ordinance using speed enforcement cameras last Sunday, June 1.
“By integrating technology with law enforcement, Sigma is setting a benchmark for other LGUs in enhancing public safety on our roads,” said LTO-6 Regional Director Gaudioso P. Geduspan II.
Sigma became the first LGU in Western Visayas to use speed enforcement cameras which are installed in strategic areas.
Mayor Dante Rizal Eslabon said the ordinance enacted last year is meant to reduce road accidents in Sigma, a town that is a major thoroughfare for traveling around Panay Island.
Vehicles traveling between Iloilo and Roxas City, the provincial capital of Capiz, have to pass by Sigma. It is also a major road going to and from Boracay Island and the rest of Aklan province.
The LGU partnered with the LTO Dumalag District Office and the Sigma Municipal Police Station (MPS) in implementing the speed limit ordinance.
The control center for the speed enforcement cameras is managed by the Public Order and Safety Unit (POSU) in coordination with the LTO Dumalag District Office and the Sigma Municipal Police Station (MPS).
