LTO: Almost 19,000 unregistered motor vehicles apprehended in May 2025
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) reminded motorists to have their expired vehicle registration renewed amid the intensified operations that led to the apprehension of a total of 18,934 unregistered motor vehicles in May this year.
LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said driving an unregistered motor vehicle has a P10,000 fine and the only way to avoid such hefty penalty is to renew the motor vehicle registration in the soonest possible time.
“Our campaign will remain aggressive until such time that we compel these motor vehicles to comply with their obligation to have their motor vehicles registered because it is through registration that motor vehicles are checked for road worthiness,” said Mendoza.
Based on LTO data, most of those apprehended were motorcycles and tricycles with 12,206 and 3,105, respectively. At least 1,800 vans and over 1,000 private vehicles were also apprehended while the rest include passenger jeepney, buses and trucks.
The same data also disclosed that LTO-Region 4A, which covers the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) led the enforcement with 9,906 apprehensions followed by LTO Region 4B and LTO-Region 2.
The LTO has been implementing the campaign against unregistered motor vehicles in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other law enforcement agencies.
“This is not only part of your obligation as motor vehicle owners, it is part of your responsibility not only for your safety but also of your family,” said Mendoza.
