Eastern Samar's heat index may reach 47°C, 35 areas may also face dangerous heat on June 3
Despite the onset of the rainy season, dangerously high heat index levels may still affect 36 areas across the country on Tuesday, June 3.
Based on the latest forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Guiuan, Eastern Samar may record the highest heat index at 47°C.
Five areas, Aparri, Cagayan; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Echague, Isabela; Virac, Catanduanes; and Masbate City, Masbate, follow at 45°C.
Five more areas may register a heat index of 44°C: Infanta, Quezon; Calapan, Oriental Mindoro; Daet, Camarines Norte; Juban, Sorsogon; and Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte.
Twelve areas may also reach 43°C, including Cavite City, Cavite; Alabat, Quezon; Coron, Palawan; Cuyo, Palawan; Legazpi City, Albay; Pili, Camarines Sur; Roxas City, Capiz; Dumangas, Iloilo; Catbalogan, Western Samar; Tacloban City, Leyte; Borongan, Eastern Samar; and Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.
An additional 13 areas may register a heat index of 42°C: These include Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Baler, Aurora; Casirugan, Aurora; Tanauan, Batangas; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Romblon, Romblon; Guinobatan, Albay; Iloilo City, Iloilo; Siquijor, Siquijor; Catarman, Northern Samar; Maasin, Southern Leyte; Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.
PAGASA classifies heat index values between 42°C and 51°C as “dangerous,” due to an increased risk of heat cramps and heat exhaustion.
Prolonged exposure may also lead to heatstroke, particularly among vulnerable individuals, such as children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions.
