- Horse-riding policemen are now patrolling the upland village in Tanay, Rizal as part of the peace and order program of the Tanay Police.
To complement the police mobile cars and motorcycles of policemen in patrolling hard-to-reach areas in Tanay, Rizal, the Tanay Police had also deployed horse-riding policemen or "Cowboy Cops" to ensure peace and order.
Residents of Barangay Daraitan in Tanay are still trying to get used to seeing uniformed policemen riding a horse every Saturday and Sunday since the Cowboy Patrol was launched by the Tanay Municipal Police Station headed by its chief, Lt. Col. Gaylor Pagala, last weekend.
Rizal Police Provincial Office (PPO) Director Col. Felipe Maraggun said the presence of the Cowboy Patrol roaming in tourist destinations in the village, particularly on the river banks, is intended to keep the upland villages secure for both tourists and residents.
During summer, tourists flock to Tanay’s upland villages, including Barangay Daraitan, to enjoy the scenic view of the mountains and wade in the cold water of its rivers and streams.
The Rizal PPO said residents have shown positive response to the Cowboy Patrol since it was introduced to the community only last weekend.
