Two minors were apprehended early Monday morning, June 2, for allegedly stealing multiple vehicle plate numbers in Tondo, Manila, while a junkshop helper was also arrested for buying and possessing the stolen items.
According to a report from the Manila Police District (MPD) - Jose Abad Santos Police Station (PS-7), the suspects, identified only by their aliases “BCD” and “DJB,” were caught on CCTV footage systematically removing license plates from vehicles parked near a railroad track along New Antipolo Street in Barangay 217, Zone 20.
Police responded to the incident at around 4:30 a. m and launched a follow-up operation.
On the same day, further investigation led authorities to a junkshop along Gagalangin Street where they arrested the 31-year-old junkshop helper for alleged violation of the Anti-Fencing Law (Presidential Decree 1612).
Police identified at least 13 complainants, all residents of Tondo, whose vehicles were targeted in the theft.
The recovered items were valued at approximately P8,000 and have been documented as evidence.
The arrested minors are currently under the custody of MPD, while coordination is ongoing with the Manila Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) to determine the level of criminal discernment.
Police reminded the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, especially around public parking areas.
