BACOLOD CITY – Two drivers have been charged for the death of a six-month pregnant nurse in a road accident in Barangay Taloc, Bago City, Negros Occidental on Sunday, June 1.
Police Lt. Col. Ariel Pico, Bago City police chief, said that a case for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide was filed before the City Prosecutor’s Office on Monday afternoon, June 2, against 30-year-old Philip of Barangay Cabug here, and 59-year-old Salvador of Pulupandan, Negros Occidental.
Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson condoled with the victim’s family.
Lacson said that the provincial government will extend assistance to the family. “It’s very unfortunate. We will definitely extend help,” he added.
Investigation said Philip, who was driving a Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV), allegedly hit 36-year-old Maria while she was walking on a pedestrian lane on her way to work in a rural health unit in Valladolid, Negros Occidental on Sunday night.
The victim was thrown off to the opposite lane and was allegedly run over by Salvador’s car. Both drivers alleged that they failed to see the victim on the road.
Pico said that they have not seen the closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage from the barangay circulating on social media. What they have right now are those captured by netizens, he said.
The victim’s family has asked the public to take down and refrain from sharing and re-posting photos and videos of the tragic accident and appealed for privacy as they grieve.
Some people who knew the victim recalled her being a dedicated public servant. The victim was a member of the emergency medical team of the Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade.
