For the Dengue Awareness Month of June, Duterte urged Filipinos to support the Department of Health’s (DOH) campaign against dengue fever, a mosquito-borne viral disease that causes mild to severe symptoms and potentially life-threatening complications.
“Nakakamatay po ang sakit na dala ng lamok na may dengue na maaaring namumugad sa ating mga pamamahay at mga komunidad. Lahat tayo ay nanganganib na maging biktima ng sakit na ito (The illness brought by dengue-infected mosquito that could be nesting in our homes and communities can lead to death. We are all in danger of being infected by this),” she said.
“Magkaisa po tayo sa adhikain na makontrol ang pagdami o paglaganap ng mga lamok na may dalang dengue. Ngayong Dengue Awareness Month, tandaan natin na bilang mga mamamayan, mahalaga ang ating papel para sa pagsugpo ng dengue (Let us united in the advocacy to control the spread of dengue-infected mosquitos),” she added.
Duterte shared some of the things that Filipinos can do in their households and communities, such as removing stagnant water from plant pots, bottles, water containers, old rubber tires, and other places where mosquitoes can nest.
Inside the homes, she reminded the need to check curtains, drawers, underneath the sofa, cabinets, and other breeding places for mosquitoes.
The Vice President shared that putting screen on windows and doors, using mosquito net while sleeping, wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants, and using insect repellants can protect families.
She also urged Filipinos to join clean-up drives in communities.
“Ang aksyon laban sa dengue ay proteksyon ng bawat isa sa ating pamilya (Taking action against dengue is protection for every family),” Duterte added.
