President Marcos said his administration will keep implementing initiatives for farmers, stressing that they are one of the key foundations of the country.

"Buong puso po ang pasasalamat namin sa inyo. At hindi po titigil ang administrasyong ito sa pagpapatupad ng mga programa na magpapabuti ng iyong mga kinabukasan (Our heartfelt thanks to you. This administration will not stop in implementing programs to give you a better future)," Marcos said on Monday, June 2.
The President made the statement when he led the turnover of 229 newly-procured operations and maintenance equipment and vehicles under the third tranche of the National Irrigation Administration’s (NIA) Re-fleeting Program in Barangay Wawa, Taguig City.
According to Marcos, the initiative is the government's response to the effects of climate change and extreme weather conditions, including the El Niño phenomenon.
He also said the enhanced fleet enables NIA to respond more effectively to the growing demands of irrigation service delivery.
"Sa pamamagitan ng mga sasakyan at gamit na ito, may pagkain sa hapag at mas matatag ang sektor ng ating agrikultura (Through these vehicles and equipment, there is food on the table and a stronger agricultural sector)," Marcos said.
"Napakahalaga ng re-fleeting program ng NIA lalo na po sa panahon ngayon. Mabigat ang pagsubok na kinakaharap ng ating mga magsasaka dahil nga sa dinudulot ng climate change—mas matinding init, mas malalang ulan, at pabago-bago at hindi malaman kung ano dry season na, kung wet season, pabago-bago ang panahon (The re-fleeting program of the NIA is very important, especially in these times. Our farmers are facing serious challenges due to the effects of climate change—more intense heat, heavier rains, and unpredictable weather, making it unclear whether it’s the dry season or the wet season, as the climate keeps changing)," he added.
NIA currently manages 257 National Irrigation Systems and 8,802 Communal Irrigation Systems. It is responsible for the repair, operation and maintenance of major canals and irrigation infrastructure.
The additional equipment allows the agency to carry out regular operations more efficiently, remove siltation and debris from canals, repair damaged structures and transport heavy machinery where needed.
Included in the third tranche is the procurement of 17 mini buses which will enhance the mobility of NIA personnel during field inspections, project monitoring, consultations and inter-agency coordination.
The vehicles, Marcos said, streamline staff deployment, reduce operational costs and provide safer and more comfortable transportation, particularly for long-distance or remote site visits.
In his speech, the President urged NIA to take care, maintain, and use the vehicles and facilities properly.
"Huwag natin sasayangin ang tiwalang ipinagkaloob sa atin ng taumbayan (Let us not waste the trust the people has given us)," Marcos told them.
