Beauty queen Roberta Tamondong has been embracing life with a relaxed attitude, savoring each moment and navigating her busy days with a calm determination.
Taking everything at a leisurely pace, she finds joy in the small pleasures of everyday life, reminding herself to appreciate the journey one day at a time.
Three years after representing the Philippines at the 2022 Miss Grand International beauty pageant in Indonesia, Roberta has now focused on her studies. Additionally, she attends events and gigs on the side.
"I'm currently enrolled at Treston International College and studying tourism management. I attend school and take online classes. I also participate in extracurricular activities, such as attending events," she said.
Roberta was pursuing journalism until she decided to switch to another major. She dropped her journalism course after the school where she was enrolled "couldn't find a balance" between school and her work. She is expected to finish her new course in three years.
Three years after she joined a pageant, Roberta said she will compete in another national beauty pageant soon.
"I'm not closing any doors yet. However, at this time, I am trying to find my purpose. I'm still young, at 22. I have several years to prepare for the next pageant. I'm joining very soon, and I hope the Filipinos will support me," she said.
Happy for CJ Opiaza
Roberta congratulated Filipino beauty queen Christine Juliane "CJ" Opiaza, who will be crowned Miss Grand International 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand, on June 3.
"CJ was also my batchmate in Binibining Pilipinas 2022. I was so happy when she was crowned Miss Grand International Philippines last year.
"I'm so proud to have witnessed her journey. I'm eager to witness the formal handover of the Miss Grand International 2024 title," Roberta said.
Roberta offered her unsolicited advice to girls who want to join the Miss Grand International Philippines pageant.
"This is cliche, but I always tell candidates to have fun. And when you get the title, don't forget to be friendly with the girls," Roberta said.
She added: "Remember that Miss Grand International is looking for 3 Bs: beauty, body, and brains. They need someone willing to work under pressure. You need to be a workaholic. You should be dedicated. You need to have that eagerness in mind."
Roberta also shared her experience working for MGI, having won 5th runner-up in 2022."I love the organization. There's a work ethic. I got the prize. I stayed in Thailand for two months, and after that, they gave me the prize. I worked hard, and I attended several events for the Miss Grand International Organization. That's alright with me. The organization took care of me during my stay in Thailand," said the beauty queen from Laguna.
Flores de Mayo
Roberta was one of the sagalas during the Flores de Mayo held at the basement of SM Araneta City in Quezon City last May 30.
Tess Castro, one of the founders of the Philippine Heritage Society, which sponsored the event, explained the difference between Flores De Mayo and Santa Cruz De Mayo.
Flores de Mayo is a Christian devotion celebrated every summer in May and is widely popular in the provinces. The idea of a month dedicated specifically to Mary can be traced back to the Baroque times.
On the other hand, Santacruzan is a colorful, religious, historical procession held nationwide in various cities, towns, and small villages in May.
It recalls Queen Helena's search for the Holy Cross.Tess reminded the public that Santacruzan is neither a beauty pageant nor a fashion show. "Remember that it has religious roots."
TPHS was formed in 2021 after Sherwin Sozon, Nathan De Leon, and Tess Castro shared a vision to initiate a fundraising campaign to support opera artists.
The group conceived a ball and a fashion show featuring the country's finest designers. It also received two trophies for the Aliw Awards for Excellence in Live Events.
