BACOLOD CITY – A 51-year-old woman was killed and six individuals were injured in a collision between a hauler truck loaded with sugarcane and tricycle in Purok Tuburan, Barangay Tampalon, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Saturday night, May 31.

Police Capt. Sammy Gasataya, deputy chief of the Kabankalan City Police Station, identified the fatality as tricycle passenger Jinky, a resident of Barangay Tampalon.
Investigation said the brakes of the hauler truck driven by 18-year-old Eljohn, a resident of Barangay Magballo, Kabankalan City, failed on a curve road.
The truck encroached on the opposite lane and hit the tricycle.
The truck fell on its side and tricycle driver Armando, 60; Jinky, and another passenger, an 11-year-old boy, were thrown off.
A motorcycle driven by a 31-year-old man, Jestoni, who was tailing the tricycle, crashed while trying to avoid the tricycle.
Jinky, Armando, Jestoni, Eljohn, the two truck helpers aged 17 and 20, and the 11-year-old boy were taken to a hospital.
She was declared dead in the hospital.
Jestoni and one of the truck helpers have been discharged.
Gasataya said that only four injured individuals – the 11-year-old boy, the other truck helper, Armando, and Eljohn are confined and recuperating in a hospital.
Police said that the truck owner signified intention to extend assistance to Jinky’s family and those confined in the hospital.
