The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned of possible flash floods and landslides in various parts of western Luzon due to continued rains brought by the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat.”
'Habagat' rains to persist in western Luzon, says PAGASA
PAGASA weather specialist Daniel James Villamil on Sunday, June 1 said the habagat may bring continuous rains over the western sections of Northern and Central Luzon, which include Ilocos Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, and Bataan, until Tuesday, June 3.
The habagat is also expected to cause cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms across Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon during this period.
PAGASA advised the public to remain alert for possible flash floods or landslides, especially during moderate to heavy rainfall.
From Wednesday to Thursday, June 4 to 5, Villamil said fewer areas will be affected by monsoon rains.
However, cloudy skies and scattered rain showers may still linger over much of Northern Luzon and Central Luzon, including Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, as well as Palawan.
Meanwhile, Villamil said that generally fair weather is expected to persist across the Visayas and Mindanao, apart from isolated rain showers or thunderstorms throughout the forecast period.
