Stressing that the country’s problems are more important than personal matters, Vice President Sara Duterte refused to comment on President Marcos’ remarks that he would want to reconcile with her family.

“Unang-una, hindi muna siguro ako magsalita about reconciliation dahil hindi naman mahalaga siguro ang mga personal na problema ng mga tao. Ang mas mahalaga is iyong taumbayan at iyong bayan natin (Firstly, I will not talk about a reconciliation because our personal problems are not important. What’s more important is the people and our country),” she told reporters and supporters that gathered outside the Intentional Criminal Court (ICC) detention facility in The Hague on Friday, May 30.
The Vice President was there with her mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, to visit former president Rodrigo Duterte.
Her father was arrested on March 11 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 before being sent to The Hague. He has been detained there since March 12 on charges of crimes against humanity of murder.
The elder Duterte’s arrest became the final breaking point for the once-alliance between the Dutertes and Marcoses, but the President said in an earlier vlog that he would be willing to reconcile with the Dutertes as he’s averse to trouble.
But when Duterte allies told him to bring the former president back home from The Hague, Malacañang and the President replied that there should be no such conditions to any hopes of reconciliation.
Meanwhile, the younger Duterte was also asked about the possibility of having former Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner Rowena Guanzon as spokesperson after she gave a hint of wanting to speak for her.
“Hindi namin napag-usapan sa Office of the Vice President ang spokesperson, pero saludo kami sa talino at tapang ni Atty. Rowena Guanzon (We in the Office of the Vice President haven’t talked about the spokesperson, but we salute the intelligence and courage of Atty. Rowena Guanzon),” she said.
“So, kung gusto niya magsalita, go lang ng go. Makikinig tayong lahat sa kanya (If she wants to speak up, go. We will all listen to her),” she added.
Guanzon, who ran as PWD Partylist nominee, used to join the pink rallies of former vice president and now Naga City Mayor-elect Leni Robredo and had expressed support of Robredo’s candidacy during the 2022 presidential polls against Marcos.
