Housewife going to funeral fatally struck by dump truck in Kabankalan City

BACOLOD CITY – A 49-year-old housewife was fatally run over by a dump truck in Zone 1, Barangay Hilamonan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, while on her way to attend a friend’s funeral in a public cemetery on Thursday, May 29.
Police identified the fatality as Maria of Barangay Hilamonan, Kabankalan City.
Police Lt. Col. Roberto Indiape Jr., Kabankalan police chief, said the victim was riding a motorcycle driven by her 58-year-old husband when a tailing dump truck overtook and sideswiped them.
The victim fell from the motorcycle and rolled under the truck and was ran over.
She sustained severe head injuries and was declared dead in a hospital. Her husband was unharmed.
Indiape said that both parties have reached an initial settlement after the truck owner extended assistance to the victim’s family.
The 49-year-old truck driver was released from police custody on Friday morning, May 30, he added.
