Farmer killed in lightning strike

PINUKPUK, Kalinga – A farmer was killed and his older brother was injured in a lightning strike in Sitio Colasan, Barangay Dugpa, Pinukpuk, Kalinga on Thursday, May 29.
Police identified the fatality as Zaldy Borja, 22.
Investigation said Zaldy and older brother Armando, 24, were cleaning their cornfield when they decided to go home due to thunderstorm at 3:30 p.m.
Zaldy was walking ahead of his older brother when they were suddenly struck by lightning.
The two siblings slumped on the ground.
Zaldy died on the spot due to serious burns. Armando also sustained burns in the body but managed to crawl 50 meters to seek help from relatives.
He was taken to the hospital where he is in stable condition.
Police advised farmers to seek shelter during thunderstorms, now that the rainy season has begun.
