BANGKOK - “Good Boy,” a new Korean series, stars Park Bo-gum, Kim So-hyun, Oh Jung-se, Lee Sang-yi, Heo Sung-tae, and Tae Won-seok.
It premiered on Prime Video on May 31 in the Philippines and over 240 countries and territories worldwide.
Park Bo-gum, Kim So-hyun and Lee Sang-yi attended a red carpet ceremony, press conference and screening for the series on May 31 at the IconSiam shopping center in Bangkok.
Before this, the cast and crew had a press conference in Seoul.
The Korean series tells the story of former medal-winning athletes who become police officers and fight in a world full of criminals.
Yun Dong-ju (Park Bo-gum), Ji Han-na (Kim So-hyun), Kim Jong-hyeon (Lee Sang-yi), Ko Man-sik (Heo Sung-tae) and Shin Jae-hong (Tae Won-seok) form a rag-tag team who seek to take down the forces behind a large crime group.
With plenty of laughs and exciting action, “Good Boy” is set to entertain viewers worldwide.
Here are the five reasons why viewers should watch “Good Boy”:
1. Amazing cast and crew
“Good Boy” has a star-studded lineup. Director Sim Na-yeon previously won Best Drama Award at the 2021 Baeksang Arts Awards for the series “Beyond Evil.” Her previous series, “The Good Bad Mother was also a popular hit.
Writer Lee Dae-il is known for hit series including “Life on Mars,” “Bring It On Ghost,” and “Chief of Staff.”
“Good Boy” is Park Bo-gum’s new acting project after the very successful “When Life Gives You Tangerines.” This is also a reunion between Park Bo-gum and Kim So-hyun, who worked together 10 years ago as hosts for an awards ceremony.
Oh Jung-se is known for being a chameleon-like actor and impressed through roles in series like “Revenant” and “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay.”
Actor Lee Sang-yi has built up recognition through series like “No Gain No Love,” “Spice Up Our Love,” and “Bloodhounds.”
Heo Sung-tae is known for appearing in season 1 of “Squid Game.” Tae Won-seok has shown steady acting through series like “Player” and “Private Lives.” With so much great talent, it’s definitely a winning combination.
2. Plenty of action and comedy
“Good Boy” will showcase a lot of great action and comedy. With each actor having spent three to eight months training for their former medalist turned police officer characters, a lot of dedication and preparation was put into their roles.
“I really wanted to portray my character well, and all the actors would arrive early and train every day,” said Park Bo-gum.
Sim Na-yeon acknowledged the hard work put into the action scenes and the intense training that was required. She also discussed how comedy was incorporated into action scenes.
“I thought about how sports like wrestling and discus throw could be utilized for fighting. We made some adjustments and chose a comedic angle for this,” she said.
Tae Won-seok teased about a scene of his where he throws wet wipes and said, “The scene is really funny and a bit fantasy-like, I hope you look forward to it.” The perfect blend of action and comedy is sure to entertain viewers.
3. Enjoyable
Crime investigation series can often be hard-boiled and very serious. However, “Good Boy” blends the more serious aspects of crime investigation with fun action, comedy, and heart.
The director said, “Regarding the tone of the series, it’s approachable with comedic and dramatic elements, it’s an easy watch. We made the series so that people could approach it comfortably and have fun watching it. I hope ‘Good Boy’ will be a fun part of your weekend.”
Kim So-hyun said, “We filmed during the hot summer, so I think the series will be a refreshing watch during this summer. I hope you can relieve your stress while watching our series.”
According to Lee Sang-yi, “After working and before going to bed, I usually watch something before sleeping. If you watch ‘Good Boy’ before going to bed on the weekends, you will have a refreshing time with delicious late night snacks.”
4. Satisfying Justice
The justice element of “Good Boy” is one of the most refreshing aspects of the series. As good underdogs fight against villains as they strive to achieve justice, a refreshing and cathartic enjoyment can be experienced. Sim Na-yeon said the premise of the story lies within the medalist turned police officers who fight for justice.
Park Bo-gum said “I was impressed by the characters who fight for justice. The five characters fight for justice and show justice is still alive. I hope that we can be a small source of support to those government employees who are fighting for justice in the real world.”
Actor Oh Jung-se, who acts as the villain of the series, said, “The charm of ‘Good Boy’ was so strong. There are characters that have some sad stories, so you want to root for them.”
5. Meaningful messages
“Good Boy” is a truly multi-faceted story that incorporates elements such as action and comedy, and being approachable and easy to watch. It also has meaningful messages for viewers to ponder and be inspired by.
Oh Jung-se said, “‘Good Boy’ is refreshing and easy to watch, but the director also included various things for people to think about and contemplate.”
He explained that viewers will think about what constitutes a villain and justice among other things.
Heo Sung-tae said, “I was surprised to find myself having tears in my eyes while reading about an action scene.”
Park Bo-gum said, “Embarking on a new challenge can become a driving source in one’s life. I also had a new start through this series. If you’re experiencing difficulty with your new start, I hope that ‘Good Boy’ can be a source of comfort. I think ‘Good Boy’ has a good direction for viewers.”
