BUTUAN CITY – A robbery suspect was arrested after a retired judge used an iPhone tracking app to help police trace his location on Pabayo St., Barangay 3, Cagayan de Oro City on Monday morning, May 26.
Tracking app leads to apprehension of 20-year-old robbery suspect
The 72-year-old victim from Quezon City requested the assistance of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office-Station 4 after he and two companions were robbed of their valuables in the house they were staying during a visit.
He reported to the police that they tracked the location of the suspect using the iPhone tracker app.
“Our police reaction force immediately jumped off after they got the information at 6 a.m. on Monday, May 26, to the pinpointed area,” said Major Joann G. Navarro, chief of Police Regional Office 10-Regional Public Information Office (PRO 10-RPIO).
The 20-year-old suspect was arrested and recovered from him were one iPhone12 worth P30,000, one iPhone11 valued at P20,000, one touchscreen cellphone Samsung S711 worth P36,000, wallet, and cash.
During verification, police discovered that the suspect had an outstanding warrant of arrest for theft. The document was immediately served on the suspect who was taken to the Maharlika Detention Cell in Cagayan de Oro City for proper disposition.
“A case for the crime of robbery is now being prepared against the suspect for proper filing before the court,” Navarro added.
The retired judge and his companions thanked the police for the swift arrest of the suspect.
PRO-10 Director Police Brig. Gen. Jaysen C. de Guzman commended the cooperation between the complainants and the responding police officers.
