New normal: Cops' quick response leads to arrest of 4 armed robbers in Makati
Operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) arrested four suspected robbers during a hot pursuit after they pulled off a heist in Makati City on Wednesday night, May 28.
NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin said the operation should serve as a normal standard on how police should respond to criminal activities as he emphasized that the certainty of arrest is a crime prevention itself.
“With the intensified and recalibrated police deployment, those who are used to committing crime with impunity will have to think twice. The new phase of policing is on its course and it is anchored on a police force that is seen, heard and felt by the people,” said Aberin.
The pursuit started after the local police were informed of a robbery-holdup incident along Tordesillas Street near the corner of HV Dela Costa in Barangay Bel-Air wherein the robbers were described to be riding two motorcycles and wearing a mix of black clothing and Joyride uniform.
The robbers took the phone and other personal belongings of the 29-year old victim.
With the assistance of patrolling officers in the area, Aberin said the suspects were intercepted along Valero Street and apprehended near the corner of Sedeño Street after attempting to flee.
Seized from them were the victim’s stolen mobile phone, a .38 caliber revolver with defaced serial number and live ammunition, a fragmentation grenade, a replica pistol, a bladed weapon, and multiple accessories including helmets, bags, and rider uniforms. Two motorcycles used in the commission of the crime were also seized.
Aberin said the suspect now face charges of robbery and violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), RA 9516 (Illegal Possession of Explosives), BP 6, RA 11235 (Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act), and the Omnibus Election Code.
He said the suspects remain under police custody and will undergo inquest proceedings before the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office.
