BUTUAN CITY – Police tracked and arrested a 25-year-old motornapper in Misamis Oriental province through a Facebook post on Tuesday, May 27.
The suspect was identified as Ren.
Investigation said the motorcycle owner reported to the Tagoloan Municipal Police Station on Tuesday that his motorcycle was stolen at 5 a.m. in Barangay Igpit, Opol.
He disclosed that after his motorcycle was taken, the suspect posted the motorcycle for sale in a buy and sell page online.
The victim believed it was his motorcycle and reported his discovery to the police.
The Tagoloan MPS coordinated with the Opol MPS and conducted an operation that resulted in the arrest of the suspect in Barangay Poblacion, Tagoloan, at 3:26 p.m.
“The victim used a different account to transact with the said seller, acting to be a buyer and meet somewhere in Tagoloan town of that same province,” said Police Major Joann G. Navarro, chief of the Regional Public Information Office (RPIO) of the Police Regional Office-10 (PRO-10), quoting a report from the Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Office (PPO).
The suspect is under the custody of Opol MPS for proper documentation. He faces a case for violating Republic Act 10883, the New Anti-Carnapping Law of the Philippines.
PRO-10 Director Police Brig. Gen. Jaysen C. de Guzman lauded the Tagoloan MPS and Opol MPS for arresting the suspect.
“I commend our operatives from Tagoloan MPS and Opol MPS for their professional handling of the case and their adherence to legal standards in the course of the arrest,” he said.
“This also shows how criminals can be tracked down even through digital footprints. PRO-10 will continue to stand committed to ensuring public safety, upholding the law, and bringing criminals to justice.”
