May nasampolan na!: LTO suspends driver's license of motorcycle owner for covering plate
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) vowed to run after motorists who would employ a modus to skirt No-Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) amid reports that there are motorcycle riders covering their license plates.
On Friday, May 30, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said they suspended the driver's license of the registered owner of a motorcycle who was seen on social media with a portion of the license plate of his motorcycle covered with a packaging tape.
Mendoza said the violation was monitored by their social media team on Facebook.
“This is a brazen violation of the law. We in the government will not allow that. We already issued a show cause order against the registered owner of this motorcycle wherein we also informed him that his driver’s license is suspended for 90 days,” said Mendoza.
Part of the investigation, according to Mendoza, is to determine if the registered owner was indeed the one who covered the license plate.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) earlier warned that motorists who would be caught using this modus is fined P5,000, adding that enforcers were already directed to check on violators regularly on the road.
On the part of the LTO, Mendoza said motorists could also be held liable for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle, the maximum penalty is revocation of driver’s license.
In the show cause order (SCO) it issued, LTO tasked the registered owner to bring the Official Receipt (OR) and Certificate of Registration (CR) of the motorcycle including records as the official rider of a motorcycle taxi company.
The registered owner was also tasked to surrender his driver’s license.
