Transport operators linked to three recent road accidents, including one that resulted in a fatality, were ordered on Friday, May 30, by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to explain why their franchises should not be suspended or revoked over alleged lapses in ensuring safe operations.
The LTFRB issued show cause orders to BND Trucking Inc., Philtranco Service Enterprises Inc., Charlie M. Ramos, and Del Monte Motor Works Inc.
LTFRB spokesperson Ariel Inton said the operators must submit verified explanations showing they properly conducted vehicle inspections and supervised their drivers.
Failure to comply could lead to suspension or cancellation of their Certificates of Public Convenience (CPC).
The operators' drivers were allegedly involved in reckless driving that caused multiple-vehicle collisions or the death of a pedestrian.
Acting motu proprio, the LTFRB Board scheduled a hearing on July 2, requiring the operators and their drivers to personally appear and submit written explanations at the LTFRB central office in Quezon City.
BND Trucking and Philtranco were linked to a collision in Atimonan, Quezon, while Charlie M. Ramos and Del Monte Motor Works were involved in separate accidents in Quezon City and Region 4A, respectively.
The LTFRB stressed the operators’ duty to thoroughly inspect their vehicles and supervise their drivers as part of their CPC responsibilities.
Failure to respond or attend the hearing will be treated as a waiver of the right to be heard, potentially resulting in immediate franchise suspension or revocation.
In a related move, the LTFRB directed the Passenger Accident Management and Insurance Agency (PAMI), the accredited insurer for public utility vehicles, to expedite the release of insurance benefits to the families of those killed or injured in the accidents.
All show cause orders were signed by LTFRB Legal Division Chief Lawyer Frederick L. Valero and officially furnished to the concerned companies and individuals.
