ILOILO CITY – The city government denied that Iloilo City is under General Community Quarantine implemented during the pandemic after a positive case of monkeypox was recorded here.
“It is fake news,” said Joy Fantilaga-Gorzal, spokesperson of Mayor Jerry P. Treñas.
Facebook posts circulating on Friday, May 30, used a previous report of Bombo Radyo Iloilo during the pandemic in 2020 and tweaked the information.
“It was confirmed by Bombo Radyo management to be an old post dating back to that time. It is clearly being taken out of context and altered to mislead the public,” Gorzal said.
“We urge everyone to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified and outdated content, and help us fight misinformation. Let us all be responsible digital citizens. Stop spreading fake news,” Gorzal said.
The Iloilo City Health Office (ICHO) said the positive monkeypox case was locally transmitted as the infectee had no travel history. The ICHO added that there is no community transmission of monkeypox.
