The color purple is the designated hue for Lupus Awareness, so it was heartening to see the atrium of SM Aura awash in purple during the Hope for Lupus event held on May 27, 2025. The Hope for Lupus Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness about the disease and is led by Emmeline Aglipay-Villar, who was diagnosed with lupus herself. Emmeline is the wife of Senator Mark Villar, who joined her and their daughter at the event.
Hope for Lupus brings light and support to those in the shadows
Turning SM Aura purple for lupus awareness and hope
The high cost of consulting with a rheumatologist and the long-term expense of maintenance medication are just some of the reasons why many people suffering from lupus remain undocumented. Lupus affects over 5 million people globally, yet it continues to baffle medical professionals. Misdiagnoses and fatalities remain all too common.
Hope for Lupus seeks to change the narrative — to offer hope to those suffering and their families. The foundation works through exhibits, seminars, publications, and community-driven activities. Those who wish to help, support, or donate may contact [email protected]. There is also a Bridging Fund for Lupus at the Philippine General Hospital.
